This year's summary will take a more historical look at the tournament in addition to my personal reflections of the event.
Three NFG'S participated this year, Tom Lofton, Charley Beals and Scott Marshall. All were great guys and performed well with the initiation tasks. Terry Marcovich was not able to attend and Mike Smiley took the temporary duty of the MFICONFG's. Charlie and Scott won the title of co-NFG's of the year. Great job guys!!!
Scott Marshall showed some real class when asked which of the guys were millionaires, he named a few and then said he thought all of us were millionaires.
Frank's had an incident that sent him to the hospital for check-up of his heart. Bar tender didn't know the number to call for 911 assistance. He came back to the tournament but didn't play.
Tim Marcovich came back this year and showed no signs of problems with his recent back surgery. The Texas Hold-em tournament was back to its well organized form with both Tim and Steve Fenimore running it. The winners were Phil Millett 3rd, Dave Ferrero 2nd and Craig Bass 1st.
The competition for the Townsend Cup was spirited again this year with a very close competition such that one match decided differently would have the tournament tied. Mike Greve's team defeated Hal Wilson's team by two points. My match of the tournament was the singles against Phil Millett which was very close and went to the 18th hole where I had to give him a stroke which gave him the win. I also played a "One Man Scramble" match against Scott Dunn which he also won. I had the pleasure of playing with Scott Marshall on the best ball match and together we ham & egged a point.
My play of the week was not what I would have liked it to be as most of my rounds were in the 90's. The exception was the day I played with Craig Bass where we were both wearing skirts and hit from the green tees. We scored a net 53 which was the best for the day and probably for the tournament. Craig played great with a gross 86. It reminded me of the net 48 Roger and I teamed on in 1996.
The Calcutta 6-6-6 was really good this year with the wind quitting early and ideal playing conditions following. Hal Wilson and I combined to tie for first in the scramble, first in the aggregate and second in the total score for a substantial payout. Hal and I were a bargain basement priced team who's true value only Craig Bass knew. The play was followed by a fish- fry dinner which worked out well for all of us.
Fines: The fines we pay are used to finance the beer purchases and snacks. I got fined because I haven't been fined much in the past. We all paid into the fund for the photo disks that Tom Whitehead provided us from last year's event.
Skirts: Players in the lower scores and ties could play from the Green tees but had to wear a skirt. A lot of us had to wear the skirts and I was fined for having too much fun wearing the skirt, (the fine was rejected by my partner, the judge - Thanks Craig).
